About Edgesmiths

About 25 years ago, Michael Alimov, the founder and owner of Edgesmiths LLC, became interested in model aviation (the sport of building and flying miniature model aircraft).  These airplanes are made primarily from wood and require sharp, precise tools to be built.  As a necessity, Michael started sharpening his own knives, planes, and chisels.

 

Then Came College and Graduate School

With college and then graduate school, the frugal lifestyle of a graduate student led Michael to learn cooking.  This was something Michael would eventually enjoy doing.  He purchased a few kitchen knives.  Some of them came from garage sales and some from discount department stores.  Predictably, those knives were of low quality, and the steel didn’t hold its edge very well.  Over the years, as Michael's knowledge of cutlery (and income) grew, he came to discover the world of high-end cutlery, including laminated hand-made Japanese knives.  He continued to master his sharpening skills, applying them to just about any knife he could get his hands on... including friends and family.  Finally, attending a sharpening school helped him reinforce his knowledge, and skills.

 

What started as a necessity turned into a passion, and now a business.  With your support and patronage, Edgesmiths will preserve this old craft, and pass it on to younger generations.
